What's on your desktop?

Since the only thing in my forums are crickets right now I'll post the question here.

What Linux/*nix distro are you running on your main machine(s)?
I'm running an encrypted Ubuntu 7.10 on my T60 Laptop, OS X on my iMac (hey, it's unix under the hood and I've got too much money invested in mac hardware which includes audio hardware that doesn't have linux support and software to drop it yet.), Ubuntu 7.10 Server on my "portable server" older dell XPS system.  I do have others but my big Dell server which is in storage till I get to TX is running Debian as a base and has VMware Server with some virtualized servers running on top of that.

Yes... I do have a Windows XP VM that gets booted once in a blue moon to do something that requires windows and I can't emulate using wine or such.  I also have an XP machine as well simply for games.

In short I use just about everything and I love experimenting with other OSs and distros but things that are important to me are done/stored/backed up with linux.

Good post. I'm running Linux

Good post. I'm running Linux Mint 4.0 on my laptop, Ubuntu Gutsy on both of my desktops. My wife still runs windows xp. And I run a windows XP VM to do photoshop work. Though that is the only thing I use it for at this point.
I used to be a gamer so I had a dual boot with Gutsy/xp. I made the mistake of upgrading to the piece of crap that is Vista. My old games stopped working. I could not play call of duty on Vista. It does not make any sense. I wrote a post about it on my then blog at cwolly.net which is now history, and it got posted on the front page of Digg and crashed my web server. Hah! Essentially from that day on, I have not been using any microsoft products except the occasional foray into photoshop. Thank you Vista for pissing me off so bad I made the full on plunge. Ubuntu is my desktop hero:)
P.S. Most of my old games work on linux just fine using WINE.

A mixed bag for me.

Oh lets see.  My old 1.8 GHZ Gateway home server is running Ubuntu Edgy,  my IBM T23 that I am on at the moment only has Ubuntu Feisty Fawn installed on it.  I have a custom built 2.8 GHZ P4 machine that I built nearly 4 years ago that duel boots Windows XP and Ubuntu Feisty Fawn.  Windows on that machine primarily only gets used for Photoshop and editing videos from my wifes video camera.  I use to game big time on that machine ( I'm a big Call of Duty fan) but now I just use my Playstation 3 for gaming since I would have to build a completely new machine just to be able to play the current games that are available.

I also have an Apple iBook G4 12" that duel boots OS X and Ubuntu Feisty.  The real fun is on my Sony Playstation 3.  I have Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10 installed along side the PS3 OS.  I have to tell ya, that having Linux installed next to the PS3's OS is next to godliness.  With that combo I get a bad ass gaming system that is able to play the latest games at high definition, a Blue Ray DVD player for the movies and Linux for Listening to music (local and streaming) and web surfing.  Firefox blows the hell out of the web browser that Sony uses on the PS3.  Come on.  $400.00 for all of that functionality can't be beat.  It is sooooo awsome.

our desktops

At our family cave:
The internet desktop 1.5 amd is running debian lenny. The ltsp server 800mhz duron is still running fc5 with 3 compaq t30 thin clients and 1 neoware eon thin client. The old p1/2's that were being used as thin clients have become vpn/firewall test machines, My 166mhz latop is running debian lenny. The linux basement test machine cyrix mII 233 mhz is running debian etch. The old imac is running debian lenny..

My Linux Hardware

This is my main computer. It is a Dell 2400 2.2GHz with 768MB RAM and Windows XP Pro. Under VMware I have been testing various distros. My Toshiba 1GHz laptop is also running XP Pro, and has been taken over by my wife.

My Linux computer is a PII 233MHz with 256MB RAM. It is my web server and Linux playground. It has run, over the past few years, Libranet 2.8.1, Ubuntu 5.10 to 7.04, and currently runs Debian Etch. WMs have included Gnome, KDE, IceWM, Fluxbox, XFCE ,and others. Gnome and Fluxbox are most liked.

I also have PCLinuxOS 0.93a, Linux Mint 2.1, and Xubuntu 7.10 Live CDs on hand to play with, and fix system problems. Some others I have given away.

If I get my hands on some more computers, I'd like to try out FreeBSD.

I have a 2Ghz Core Duo

I have a 2Ghz Core Duo MacBook as my main machine. I dual boot OSX 10.4 and Ubuntu 7.10 (I use rEFIt as the boot manager), and I have Virtual Box running a VM of XP. I also have an old G3 iMac running OSX 10.3 (so I can run Classic applications). I also have an old P4 Dell, that I use as a home server (Ubuntu 7.10 Server) and I have got my fiancee moved to Ubuntu full-time finally (however she has software for work that she has to run in Virtual Box/Windows XP).

At work I get the pleasure of managing servers for Ubuntu, Debian, Red Hat Enterprise, Fedora, Suse Linux Enterprise and FreeBSD.

The disto I am excited about tyring out in the next few weeks is openfiler (http://www.openfiler.com).

Jordon! Sounds like you have

Jordon! Sounds like you have a ton of stuff going on there. Man I wish I could move everyone over to Ubuntu. Thanks for sharing!

At the moment we only have

At the moment we only have one working computer here at our house.  It's an eMachines T2885,  2.8GHz Celeron box with 512 MB's of RAM with (2) 80GB hard drives.  The first hard drive is running Windows XP for my wife (she has absolutely no interest in Linux) and the other is running PCLinuxOS GNOME V2.21.2.  I tried Ubuntu for a little bit before my computer got corrupted and I had to wipe it clean.  I liked using PCLOS-G and just stuck with it.  I might try Ubuntu again once Hearty Heron(?) comes out.  But other than that, I'm just trying to improve my skills in Linux.
