Vimtutor - for those who want to learn the Vi editor, this is a wonderful tutorial. On Ubuntu/Debian:

apt-get install vim

Then just execute the command vimtutor.

Putty - A windows app that is great for linux? Heck yes. apt-get install putty on Ubuntu/Debian.
