Loving Mint
Hey Chad,
Thanks for the speedy review of Linux Mint. I'm a bit of an Ubuntu fanboy, but decided to take your advice and try Mint out on my laptop (Dell Inspiron 9300).
So far, I really love it; it's quite pretty. :) I'm not exactly used to, and not sure I really like, the MintMenu, but that may change, but it's nice that so many things work out of the box.
I still find it preferrable to use Wicd instead of Network Manager, but that change is a piece of cake. Mmmm . . . cake!
Great show and keep up the good work!
Cheers,
eric
Yes, I should have qualified
Yes, I should have qualified in my review. The first thing I do is get rid of the mint menu and go back to standard gnome menus. Fortunately that is easy to do!
Yeah Wicd is pretty uh... well wicked.

More Mintyness
I'm just so used to the standard Ubuntu Gnome menu that the Mint Menu throws me off, but I'm trying to use it a bit to make myself more flexible. :)
Since they install GnomeDo by default, one could almost do away with menus entirely. :)
interestingly enough,
interestingly enough, because I use my /home/chad directory on a separate partition, when I install mint, it actually defaults to my standard gnome setup. No fancy mint startup menu. Which is what I like. But the point is, you can indeed make it like a standard gnome menu by deleting the existing bar and throwing up standard ones. You will just need to customize them from scratch.
