Hi from another Dundonian
Hi my name is Paul and i'm a alcholic whoops - i'm a linux user - wrong notes.
Aaron (finux) spread the word about yourselves during one our lug sessions and then on the mailing list, and i'm impressed - well done and keep up the good work.
Ive been using linux of and on for over 5 years, but would still consider my self a newbie - if it aint on a gui it dont exist. I unfortunately have to return to windoze when work projects require it.
At home we use a variety of distros
Fedora 6 based file server
Debian 4 x86 based Toshiba laptop - the wife's
Son's desktop AMD 64x2 4600 quad boot OpenSuse10.3 / Mint 4 / Gentoo (work in progress) / Windows server 2003 modified into a workstation
Son's Laptop 1 IBM thinkpad 600E running Puppy linux
Son's Laptop 2 Asus EeePC 2GB ram still on Xandros
Daughters Desktop AMD XP 1500 running Mint 3.5 / XP pro / Windows 2000 - scanner only has win 2000 drivers and software
My desktop 1 Acer Aspire R900 dual boot Windows XP home / unbuntu fiesty
My desktop 2 dual boot AMD XP2000 OpenSuse 10.3 / Fedora 8
My desktop 3 Dual Celeron 500 Abit M/board (HP6) going to be used for the upcomming Linux from Scratch project within the Abertay Linux Society / Taylug.
Asus EeePC 2GB running Xandros and trying to get Amiga OS to run on it when I get time.
Because the local schools only accept work in MS base file formats, we have had to keep our network based arround Samba, so that any windoze pc can be connected without having to rebuild.
Why do I use Linux ? Perhaps its from my C64 / Sinclair QL / Amiga days where you could make your computer into what ever you wanted it to be, totally standard or customised into what you wanted. I know its posiible with windows, I just never got it to work for me or more importantly remain stable. I still have to use windows at home as I have video editing hardware / software thats tied to that platform. Mind you I still have frame acurate video editing hardware that uses an Amiga - but thats another story.
Enough of my waffling, ive got a pile of episodes to catch up on.
Keep up the great work
Paul
