Hello from Austria/Europe
Hi!
Thank you Chad for your outstanding podcast.
I've been using Linux for about 5 years now. Actually I came to Linux because a friend of mine gave me a LaTeX-CD for Windows with the advice to check this cool stuff out. Of course this CD disappeared in a stack of other CDs. Being a Windows-User such things as LaTeX or Linux meant nothing to me. I only (thought I) knew that Linux was something for the more experienced users who spent many nights to get their computers up and running ;-)
It happened that I stumbled across the CD many months later. I installed it and it was so awesome! So cool! From that day on i had fallen in love with LaTeX. I thought to myself that if Linux is only half as cool as LaTeX I have to give it a try.
So I checked some Redhat ISOs and installed Linux. There were some troubles during the installation process but somehow I fixed it. I learned that using Linux forces the user to read a bit sometimes. But it was too late - I had become a Linuxlover.
I went to my local LUG and one of the guys there asked me why I use Redhat. I had no idea - I guess because the CDs were attached to a magazine or the like.
He suggested that I should give Debian a try. And from that day on I've been using Debian on all of my machines.
I use virtualbox to test Ubuntu and others distros out but I like to use Debian as my distro.
Currently I have 2 laptops running Debian (testing and stable), 2 NSLU2 ("Slug") Servers (all Debian) and think of setting up Drupal on my LAMP Server. My Linksys WRT54GL Router is powered by OpenWRT.
It was Chess Griffin (www.linuxreality.com) who inspired me to try the Slugs out and they are great because of many reasons.
You, Chad, inspired me to give Drupal a try. I will install it within the next weeks and check it out.
One reason why I do like GNU/Linux so much is the humanity behind it - it brings out the good in the people.
Helping each other, making such great podcasts (like yours) in the spare time to contribute. And above all giving such a great OS and applications to all of us for free! Thank you Richard Stallman, Linus Torvalds and all the developers and contributors!
I like your podcast because you're a crazy guy ;-) and are very experienced. You know much about things I haven't come in touch with yet. I learn so much from listening to your podcast.
Keep up the great work!
Joe
PS: I like your music, too ;-)

Awesome Joe, so glad to have
Awesome Joe, so glad to have you on board! I agree with you completly about people coming together to help eachother out. In may ways, the open source community has something that real communities are struggling with.
Yes, I am crazy, and i'm glad you listen anyway:)
