First laptop decisions
Hey everyone,
I am currently saving my money to buy my first laptop and have narrowed it down to 2 laptops, but I am not sure which would be the better choice. I am going to get either the Asus EEE 4G Surf, or the Everex Cloudbook. The trouble that I'm having is weather I want a solid-state laptop with 4G's of memory or a hard drive computer with 30G's of memory. The Cloudbook is slightly faster (1.2gHz compared to 900 mHz) but that ends the differences. They are both 7" screens, both have WiFi, both have a webcam, both have 512MB RAM and they both run Linux (the Cloudbook runs gOS).
I'm leaning toward the Cloudbook, but I've never had a laptop and am not sure what would be an advantage and what would be a disadvantage (specifically solid state over hard drive). I can't wait to hear everyones thoughts on these two OR if you have a suggestion of another laptop.
Thanks!

Hey man, you know I've not
Hey man, you know I've not been hearing good things about the Cloudbook, and I can tell you from experience that the EEE is great. One thing to keep in mind about the 4 gigs of hard drive space is, you can use thumb drives, SD cards, and portable hard drives to expand that. For instance, I use my 80 dollar 120 gig WD portable drive if I need any extra space. I have noticed that for the most part, it has not been an issue, unless I want to load a ton of MP3 or movie files.
Good luck in your decision!
Chad
Thanks for the info
Thanks for the info Chad.
It's settled then, I'm going to get the EEE PC. A couple of people I work with had mentioned getting a USB hard drive as an option, too. This works out great because yesturday my wife and I went up to Best Buy to see if they had a EEE on display to try out and I was able to pick up a 250gig WD they had on clearence for $100!
Thank you so much for the help!
Now I just need to pick a color. (White or black... Black or white...)

Ideas...
Hey YorName!
As one who is salivating in anticipation of the EEE 900 (the new 8.9 inch screen models) I certainly think yoiu could do a lot worse then an Asus EEE.
But having said that, You might want to look at some "traditional" low cost notebooks in addition to the two super portibles you listed. for example some of the sub $600 15" notes offer a lot of bang for your buck, and if you dont have a notebook at all right now, you might enjoy the larger formfactor models with the full size keyboard and lorder storage (mag HD)
Just a thought...
