New Heads First books out statistics, ajax, and Java Servlets 2nd edition.

Hello all!

I figured since I've been posting on the forums I should introduce myself, even if they're not a hotbed of activity.

I'm an asp.net/C# dev by trade; the "java" in the javadan handle is all about coffee, I'm afraid ;) I have done some minor dev work in PHP, Python, C, C++, and some others besides but prefer to work in Python when I can get the practice time in. I'm residing in Colorado and have a real love/hate relationship with MS and Windows. The dev tools I love, everything else I hate...

How to reset a NT passwords, using Linux

You may need to reset an admin password in windows for many reasons, such as you've forgotten it or you have been given a Windows system that you need to repair and don't have access to the admin password.  Thankfully it couldn't be easier with a Linux system, and a package called chntpw.

I switched to Ubuntu after hearing a recording of a local Lug meeting. There were 5-6 people there, and during the introductions, they all said they were using Ubuntu. That got me interested, and after trying it, I swithced from Fedora to Ubuntu. That was just before Dapper was released. Even though I experiment with other distributions, I have used Ubuntu almost exclusively since.

Linux on ancient Dell 386 laptop

I have an ancient Dell 386 laptop that I have installed Ubuntu on. Problem is that Ubuntu is way too heavy weight for the amount of ram I have on the laptop. I wanted to install a minimum system using a LFS (Linux From Scratch) live cd.  Problem is that I can't seem to boot from the cd drive in the laptop anymore.   I can't use the Ubuntu installation on the hdd, either.  Anyone know how to stop the Ubuntu boot cycle and specify a runlevel that doesn't start the X server?  Thanks!

Nice site and podcast!

Just joined to leave you a quick note saying that I like your site and podcast.  Keep it up! I'm what I would call an advanced beginner with linux having first experienced it many years ago but only going to a permanent linux desktop when I discovered Ubuntu a couple of years ago.Keep up the suggestions on development, tools, cool things you've run into.  I also have a great interest in Python and I've started playing around with Django, thanks primarily to your podcast.  Good work!
