Greeting from Oakmont Pennsylvania

Hello from a suburb of Pittsburgh PA.  I am located about 15~17 miles from the point along the Allegheny River.  I have been tinkering with Linux for several years now mostly with Red Hat and SuSe.  I have become a recent convert to Ubuntu, more specifically Kubuntu, and it is now the main operating system I use when at home.

Episode 14

Thanx for the info episodes on security, I am sure you have already talked about this but one good thing for your network is to know all the mac (media access control) addresses of all the nics (network interface cards of all printers, computers, and etc.) and the location of that equipment. Then if you have an issue it is real easy to find that equipment and solve the problem. For example it use to be that network cards could fail. when they did they would spout umpteen packets (known as screaming)  on the network,  That distrupts the normal traffic.

Good 90's Alternative Music Internet Radio Stream.

During my lunch break at work today, I came across a pretty good 90's Alternative music channel in Streamtuner.  It is called Big R Radio - 90s Alternative, and you can find it under the SHOUTcast tab.  It really brought back some memories from my teen youth.  In my opion the Alternative Rock music from the 90's is much better than the Alternative Rock from today.  Todays Alternative Rock is just to damn noisy.
If you liked the Alternative Rock from the 90's, give it a listen.

school testing

I used to work for a community college that used a national testing company to do their testing for college entrance examinations.  Does anyone else have experience in this area. The one question I have is: are they just text based or graphical and text based?  I was contemplating getting together with some of the instructors where I used to work to create open source testing programs to save school districts money.. Of course the data in the used by the programs would not be open source for security reasons.

Customizing Drupal - Part 5 comments

For some reason the Drupal part 5 tutorial doesn't have an add comment field enabled for it. Just thought I would point out a few things I stumbled over in this one.

(BTW - as a user am I using the FCKeditor or something from your site to enter this text, or is it using something from my own install? The editor screen doesn't display the return character accurately. A single return puts an extra half line between text, although it displays after submission as a regular single return. Isn't FCK supposed to be WYSIWYG?)

Well for most parts I would agree with the above statement, but I suppose the bigger question is; What does community mean to you?

NmapFE - Learn Thy Network

NmapFE - Introduction

Nmap, a very handy utility for Linux systems, can be run on a network to identify and map out network devices and locations. This utility is particilarly helpful for those who are in network management, or security, because you can not only map devices, but see what ports they have open, and what type of devices they are. You can also see if there are rogue devices on your network, or, you know, find out way too much about the wireless network you randomly connected to. Hah!

If you are running an Ubuntu or Debian system, you can do a
